Charlize Theron was born August 7, 1975, in Benoni, South Africa, near Johannesburg, child of Charles and Gerda Theron, and she is of German and French descent. She grew up on her parents' farm. Her life has never been easy. At the age of 15, Theron witnessed how her mother shot and killed her father in self-defense when he attacked her. Her father was an alcoholic.
